Each year, we look forward to Surge's 'Design, Dine, Make a Difference' gala, which celebrates all their achievements and engages the region's A+D community.

In 2021, we took our contribution and participation a step further, teaming up with the talented designers at Kristina Zanic to produce a display artefact with the theme of 'GAIA', the personification of the Earth and one of the Greek primordial deities.
Designers were challenged to capture our changing planet and humanity's role in this change by considering all four dimensions of sustainability: the social, ecological, economic and the world view. The team identified that masks often contain plastic such as polypyrene, creating ocean pollution and adding a glut of plastic waste that already threatens marine life. Hence, we initiated raising awareness for such problems, which becomes critical and essential to save marine and wildlife from more violations.
FLOCEAN by Kristina Zanic, a sun lounger made its entry for the year's 'Sustainable Design Challenge' by Surge for Water. Without sacrificing the ergonomics of the sun lounger, FLOCEAN stands out as an organic design with high durability that can be used in public beaches and parks. The product was manufactured by Havelock One's hospitality manufacturing team in our factory based in Askar, Bahrain, and has won the sustainability award through a vote of people's choice.
